Dragon Tail Recommends: Because Dragon Tales are the Best

July 14, 2021

Welcome to our second Dragon Tail Recommends list! Not to be biased but let’s face it, tales about magnificent creatures such as yours truly, are the best. This is from a purely unbiased perspective, mind you. Not to brag, but books about these noble creatures have been, ahem, flying off the shelf. (See what I did there?) Here is a list of some of the more popular series.

Wings of Fire series by Tui Sutherland

“The seven dragon tribes have been at war for generations, locked in an endless battle over an ancient, lost treasure. A secret movement called the Talons of Peace is determined to bring an end to the fighting, with the help of a prophecy, a foretelling that calls for great sacrifice.”

“Minli, an adventurous girl from a poor village, buys a magical goldfish, and then joins a dragon who cannot fly on a quest to find the Old Man of the Moon in hopes of bringing life to Fruitless Mountain and freshness to Jade River.”

Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull

“Because Dragonwatch, an ancient group of wizards, enchantresses, and dragon slayers, is crumbling, an uprising of dragons threatens to destroy the magical preserves as well as overrun the nonmagical world.”

The Fire Within by Chris D’Lacey

“When college student David Rain rents a room in an unusual boardinghouse full of clay dragons that come to life, he has no idea that they, along with some lively squirrels, will help jumpstart his writing career.”

Dragonbreath by Ursula Vernon

“Danny Dragonbreath and his friend Wendell get an up-close underwater tour of the Sargasso Sea from Danny’s sea-serpent cousin, encountering giant squid and mako sharks–and learn about standing up to bullies in the process.”

Silver Batal and the Water Dragon Races  by K. D. Halbrook

“Silver Batal, a young desert-dweller, dreams of becoming a water dragon racer, and when she befriends a rare dragon that can swim and fly, she may just get her chance.”

Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliott

“In Brooklyn, nine-year-old Jax joins Ma, a curmudgeonly witch who lives in his building, on a quest to deliver three baby dragons to a magical world, and along the way discovers his true calling.”

Dragon Kingdom of Wrenly by Jordan Quinn

“Ruskin, the pet dragon of the royal family of Wrenly, forms new friendships with the dragons of Crestwood and goes on exciting adventures”

Anya and the Dragon by Sofiya Pasternack

“In an alternate ninth century, twelve-year-old Anya and a new friend face a Viking and a tsar to protect the water dragon that saved her life, putting her family’s home at risk.”

Dragons vs Drones by Wesley King

“A young computer genius whose CIA analyst father went missing years earlier is chased by sleek, high-tech drones into a land populated by Godzilla-size dragons, triggering a war that only he can stop.”

Dragon Masters series by Tracey West

“Dragon Masters has it all! Dragons, a Dragon Stone, a king, a wizard, and magic!. The Dragon Masters must learn how to connect with and train their dragons–and they must also uncover their dragons’ special powers. Does Drake have what it takes to be a Dragon Master? What is his dragon’s special power?”

The dragon with a chocolate heart by Stephanie Burgis

“After drinking enchanted hot chocolate, a brave young dragon is transformed into a twelve-year-old human girl with a passion for chocolate”
