This year we had over 20 entries from students in middle school through high school to our Youth Poetry Contest. Our judges, librarians from the Youth Services department, had a difficult time choosing winners! The entries were split between middle school writers and high school writers. So without further ado, here are our winners!
Middle School Category:
First place: “Dear Sylvia, Ms. Sylvia Plath” by Ingrid Grabowski
Second place: “Chalk” by Gianna Beluzo
Second place: “The Apple Tree” by Shannon King
Second place: “Ode” by Charlotte White
Third place: “Spaghetti Ode” by Gabe
Third place: “Sisters” by Evie McElroy
High School Category:
First place: “A Rule of Thumb” by Sarah Moriarty
Second place: “Abomination” by Onyx Rohan
Third place: “More beautiful than a galaxy” by Kiarelyzn Gonzalez
Congratulations to our winners! It takes courage to submit your writing to a contest and to allow it to be judged. We encourage everyone to continue writing, you’ll only get better! Be on the look out for our Short Story Contest this fall.
