Part-time Circulation Assistant
Position Overview
Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, the Circulation Assistant supports all circulation functions in the library, participates in the interlibrary loan process, and handles incoming and outgoing ILL. This is a union eligible position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. The person in this position performs all circulation duties at the two services desks in the Adult Services Department and in the Youth Services Department. This includes: checking out and discharging library material, collecting fines and fees, registering new patron library cards, placing and processing holds, answering and directing phone calls and directing patrons.
2. This position handles incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan material through the CW/MARS library network.
3. The person in this position opens and closes the circulation desk as necessary.
4. This position receives, sorts, and distributes incoming library materials.
5. The person in this position provides circulation and informational services to patrons in person, on the phone, or via email.
6. The person in this position attends continuing education seminars, workshops, and informational meetings when assigned.
7. This position provides adult programming and marketing support as necessary.
8. The person in this position researches, selects and purchases library materials in order to maintain assigned collections.
9. The person in this position performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Adult Services or the Executive Director.
Required Qualifications
1. A high school diploma is required. Some college coursework, or a college degree is desired.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
3. Excellent attention to detail is required.
4. The ability to work as part of a team and independently.
5. The ability to interact positively with library patrons and library staff.
6. The ability to bend and lift light loads up to 40 pounds.
7. The ability to work some evening and Saturday shifts as assigned.
24-25 hours a week, $20.30 an hour
